Recommended Child Restraints

6 Months to 4 Years

Rearward/Forward Facing Child Restraints

Children between the age of 6 months and 4 years must use EITHER an approved rearward facing child restraint OR an approved forward facing child restraint with an inbuilt harness.

Children under 4 years of age must only travel in the rear row of a motor vehicle. If your vehicle does not have a rear row, this does not apply. Note: When using in a single row vehicle, such as a utility or van, a rearward facing child restraint cannot be used in the front seat where there is a passenger airbag.

RAA recommends using a Baby Safety Capsule for the first 6 months and then moving the child into a convertible child safety seat that will accommodate the child rearward until approximately 12 months of age. When using a convertible child safety seat, use the seat rearward facing until the child reaches the maximum weight for this mode (older seats) or meets the shoulder height marker for the forward facing mode. Just because a child has turned 6 months of age does not mean the child is ready to travel forward facing. A child safety seat should be used until the child outgrows the seat. A child has outgrown the seat when they have reached the maximum weight/height for the restraint or the maximum shoulder height marker. This normally occurs around 4 years of age.

RRP: $599.00     Member’s Price: $469.00

Safe-n-Sound Meridian SICT

Side Impact Cushion Technology (SICT) is designed to minimise the crash energy generated in a side impact crash, diverting crash forces away from your child, whilst the deep side wings also reduce the chance of your child’s head striking part of the car interior.

The Meridian SICT has many improvements from the initial Meridian model, making it easier to use. All adjustments for the headrest and harness are made from the front of the seat, eliminating the need for the seat to be removed from the car for each adjustment.

The seat features seatbelt lock off clips for the sash part of the seatbelt that help to keep the seat firm when fitted in the forward facing position.

There are four recline positions in forward facing mode and EZ-Buckle System that retains the harness buckle in a forward position and  prevents your child from sitting on the buckle when boarding.

Safe-n-Sound Platinum SICT

Birth to 12 months rearward facing, then forward facing until approx. 4 years.

RRP: $659.00     Member’s price: $599.00

Safe-n-Sound Platinum SICT

Side Impact Cushion Technology (SICT) - Head Protection features a dual layer head protection which minimises the energy generated in a side impact crash. The air cushions on the sides of the seat maximise head protection by dramatically reducing side impact forces. As the cushion compresses it dispels air at a controlled rate, and this results in the cushion absorbing crash energy.

Active Head Restraint (AHR) - features deeper side wings that shield and contain your child’s head in a side impact crash. AHR grows with your child, working with SICT to contain your child’s head and to minimise impact forces.

The Platinum SICT has many improvements from the initial Platinum model, making it easier to use. All adjustments for the headrest and harness are made from the front of the seat, eliminating the need for the seat to be removed from the car for each adjustment.

The seat features seatbelt lock off clips for the sash part of the seatbelt that help to keep the seat firm when fitted in the forward facing position. EZ-Buckle System retains the harness buckle in a forward position and prevents your child from sitting on the buckle when boarding.

Safe-n-Sound Maxi Rider AHR Easy Adjust

6 months to 4 years with internal harness (child safety seat), then used with a seatbelt (as a booster seat) until 6-8 years.

RRP: $399.00     Member’s Price: $359.00

Maxi Rider AHR Easy AdjustRecommended by RAA for parents/ carers that need to transport more than one child at different times in the same seat.

AHR headrest provides additional energy absorption for the child’s head in the event of a crash. Harnesses and head rest are easily adjusted from the front without having to uninstall the seat from the vehicle. Easily adjusted from child safety seat mode to booster seat mode when child is the required size (around 4 years of age). In booster mode the seat features a “slide guard clip”, designed to prevent a child from sliding off the seat and to guide the lap part of the belt onto the hips. This booster is compatible with a Protecta Harness when only a lap belt is available.

RAA recommends that a taller booster seat be used after the child has outgrown this seat until the child has the height required to wear an adult seatbelt correctly.
