Rearward and Forward Facing Child Restraints
Although the RAA does not recommend convertible seats for newborn babies, a convertible seat rated up to 12kg rearward facing is recommended as the next restraint after the Baby Safety Capsule. There is mounting evidence that keeping your child rearward facing for longer is the safest option. Your child should remain rearward facing until they reach the maximum weight rating for that restraint.
Child safety seats should be used up to 18kg (approximately 4 years of age). The only time a child should be moved out of this type of seat under 18kg is when their shoulders have grown past the top harness slot.
