Get to know SA roads and rules

You might have been driving in your home country for years, but moving overseas brings a whole new set of road rules and driving considerations.

RAA provides free sessions to migrant groups to help them get up to speed and feel confident on our roads.

Call us to book a free session for your group. We will arrange our staff to present the session at time and place that suits you.

What can I learn?

There are five different sessions on offer:

The Wheels presentation provides information on buying a second-hand vehicle, including:

  • what to consider when buying a car
  • where to buy – private, dealer or auction
  • what to look for when choosing a car including safety ratings
  • inspecting a car including the PPSR
  • signing a contract
  • warranties
  • transfer of ownership and insurance
2. Ready, set, drive

If you’re from overseas and require a South Australian driver’s licence, or convert your current licence, there are several important things you’ll need to know. The Ready, set, drive presentation covers this and more, including:

  • licensing – for both novice drivers and experienced drivers
  • driving lessons – RAA drive school
  • International driving permits
  • registration – what is covers and what is doesn’t
  • insurance – the different types are explained
  • choosing a safe car
  • what to do after a crash
3. Keeping Left

This presentations provides you with all the information you need to keep safe on South Australian roads.  The Keeping Left covers:

  • driving on the left
  • road rules and roads

4. Road Rules Quiz

The Road Rules Quiz, MKI and MKII, is an interactive presentation that covers both general road rules and give way rules. Each participant receives a ‘clicker’ at the presentation to record their answers; the group’s responses are then displayed in real-time on the screen. The presentation covers:

  • often misunderstood road rules
  • new road rules
  • what to do after a crash
5.  Kids in cars

Our group presentations and practical workshops cover everything you need to know. Our sessions include information around:

  • seat selection
  • vehicle preparation
  • installation
  • the latest rules and regulations.

We will look at best practice guidelines and can check any restraints already fitted in your vehicle.
