Feel safer and comfier behind the wheel

If you’d like to eliminate blind spots or find out how close you should sit to the steering wheel, then CarFit is for you.

During a free 20-minute session, a trained professional will take you through a comprehensive checklist to help you find your ideal driving position.

We’ll look at things such as how your seatbelt fits and the position of your mirrors. By the end, you’ll drive away with advice tailored specifically for you.

What’s covered in a CarFit session?

CarFit isn’t an assessment of your driving ability, but rather a chance to make sure you’re getting the most out of your vehicle and to ensure you’re driving safely.

We’ll check if:
  • your seat is positioned so you’re a safe distance from the steering wheel and have good vision over the front of the car;
  • your mirrors are adjusted to provide you with maximum vision and to reduce your blind spots;
  • your seatbelt is fitted correctly and comfortably;
  • your head restraint is adjusted to provide protection from whiplash in a crash;
  • you can easily reach the foot pedals; and,
  • you’re aware of all of the available adjustments in your car.

If you have any mobility issues or specific needs, a trained occupational therapist can provide advice and options for driving and getting in and out of your car.

Each driver also gets a gift bag full of useful information and a copy of the completed checklist detailing all of the recommendations. An RAA Road Service patrol attends selected CarFit sessions, and at each event one lucky participant will receive a door prize.

We can also provide CarFit sessions for groups such as retirement villages, schools, local councils and bowling clubs. Call us on 8202 4221 or email carfit@raa.com.au for more information.
