  • When is cruising scheduled to resume?

We’ll share any updates we receive about the date cruising is set to resume in Australia.

Cruise lines have released their cruise itineraries for the end of 2021, 2022 and some even into 2023. These have been very popular and availability is already scarce on some departures.

If you’re looking at booking a cruise in the future and want to know more about availability and any flexible booking conditions, please speak to your travel expert at RAA.

  • Did you know?

The cruise industry supports around 25,000 jobs in Australia and New Zealand, from travel agents and tour operators through to farmers, winemakers, port workers and technical service providers. Many of these jobs are at risk while cruise operations are suspended.

As an industry that contributes more than $5 billion a year to Australia’s economy, cruise lines are committed to returning to operation. Their priority will continue to be the safety, health and wellbeing of passengers and crew, as well as ensuring public safety at their dock destinations.

  • Who is CLIA?

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is the world’s largest cruise association, representing more than 60 major cruise lines. CLIA and its members have begun creating a new health framework to uphold the safety of guests and prepare for future operations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The framework is being developed in consultation with medical experts and health authorities to ensure the association and its members learn as much as possible from these unprecedented events and respond accordingly.

  • What’s changed?

Cruise lines have committed to extensive new measures to uphold the health and safety of guests, crew and communities when the time is right to sail again. New health protocols will set out the specific testing, screening and sanitation measures that will apply to cruise ships globally, ensuring an industry response to COVID-19 that goes far beyond almost any other sector.

In a first for any travel sector, CLIA ocean members across the globe have agreed to conduct testing of all passengers and crew on all ships with a capacity of more than 250 persons. A negative test result will be required for embarkation, an example of the cruise industry leading the way to a safe resumption of operations.

In close collaboration with expert health advisors and other industry-initiated expert groups around the world, CLIA has established a COVID-19 Member policy that all members must adhere to. This policy entails a comprehensive layered prevention, detection and response strategy from the time of booking to disembarkation. You can read the full policy as well as their FAQs here.

Each cruise line has also set out there own health and safety protocols which are at a minimum listed in the CLIA Covid-19 member policy; however, may also go over and above. These can be found on each cruise line’s website below.

For any cruise line not listed, please ask your travel expert at RAA for more information.
