What to do if you’ve had an accident.
Being in a car crash, no matter how serious, can be a frightening experience. If you've had an accident, simply follow these steps:- Turn on your hazard lights and move your vehicle off the road, if it's safe to do so.
- Exchange information with the other driver – you'll need to collect:
- The driver's name and address
- The name and address of the vehicle's owner
- The vehicle's registration
- Record details of the crash, including location, date and time
- Take photos of the damage to the vehicles/property involved
- If police didn't attend the scene, report the crash if the total damages of all the property involved is likely to exceed $3000, or the accident resulted in a bodily injury or death of a person or animal.
- Contact RAA to start your insurance claim, and we'll help get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
