Friendly, accredited instructors
All RAA driving instructors are held to the highest industry standards. They're police cleared, adherent to our strict Child Safe Policy, and participate in ongoing training and development. They've also completed training with Autism SA, so they can provide an inclusive and supportive environment when teaching people on the autism spectrum.

Log Book or VORT
At RAA, you can train using the Log Book method, also known as Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A), or we can prepare you for your Vehicle On Road Test (VORT). Help me choose

Driving lesson types & prices

At RAA, you can train via the Log Book method, also known as Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A), or we can provide training to prepare you for your Vehicle On Road Test (VORT).

VORT (Vehicle On Road Test)
60 minute lesson
Preparation for your VORT; a test involving the assessment of general driving skills and the successful completion of 5 low-speed manoeuvres. VORT is a pass or fail test. More info

Refresher lessons for seniors

Keys2drive
Get a free 1hr driving lesson through Keys2drive – a national program funded by the Federal Government and run by RAA's national body, the Australian Automobile Association. More info
Safe caravan/trailer use/4WD training
Learn the skills needed for towing and reversing a caravan or trailer, and how to securely set up your caravan. We also offer recreational 4WD training. More info
International licence conversion
If your licence is transferable to an SA licence, we'll show you the rules and regulations that apply on South Australian roads. If your licence isn't transferable, we can provide you with the training you'll need to progress from a learner's permit to a Provisional licence. More info

More about improving your driving skills

The journey from your learner's permit to your full license

  • 1. Getting your Ls

    Complete a 2-part theory test.

    Part A - Correctly answer all 8 give way questions to move on to Part B.

    Part B - Correctly answer at least 32 of 42 multiple choice questions on road rules and safety.

  • 2. Getting your P1s

    Hold a valid learner's permit for at least 12 months.

    Complete at least 75 hours driving (including 15 at night) with a qualified supervising driver.

    Complete all the requirements of Log Book (CBT&A) training or pass a VORT test .

    Successfully complete a Hazard Perception Test.

  • 3. Getting your P2s

    You can apply for your P2 licence once you've held your P1s for 12 months.

    You no longer have to display your P-plates, but most of the provisional licence conditions still apply.

  • 4. Getting your full licence

    After 2 years on your P2 licence, you can apply for your full licence.
